Abstract
This is the clinical statistics concerning the admissions and deaths observed in the Pediatric Department of Seoul Red Cross Hospital, during the past 5 years from Jan. 1, 1970 to Dec, 31, 1975.
SRCH has been characterized as a acute general hospital, which usually deals with the patients of middle and low economical classes in Seoul. We think that the distribution of the diseases in the children of this group may represent tentatively the pattern of the childhood diseases in our country as a whole. The results obtained are as follows;
1) Total number of admission during 5 year period was 2990, of which 1863 were male, 1127 were female and male to female ratio was 1.65 : 1.
2) The neonate and infant group of less than 1 year was the most frequent group of admission (39.30¢¥), and was also the most frequent group of death (44.07%).
3) Major 10 leading causes of hospitalization were diarrheal disease, pneumonia, bronchiolitis, glomerulonephritis, tuberculous meningitis, infectious hepatitis, bacillary dysentery, typhoid fever, prematurity, and aseptic meningitis in the order of frequency.
4) Total number of deaths was 211 and the mortality rate was 7.06%.
5) Major 10 leading causes of deaths were tuberculous meningitis, pneumonia, septicemia, congenital heart disease, bacillary dysentery, bacterial meningitis, leukemia, prematurity, neonatal tetanus and hepatic disease in the order of frequency.
